• What is a clinical study?

  A clinical study is a medical investigation in which experimental treatments, equipment, or medications are tested on humans, under the supervision of medical personnel, to determine whether they are effective and safe in curing, preventing, or controlling a disease.

• Why are clinical studies important?

  Through clinical studies, important discoveries have been made to improve our lives, for example:
  - New drugs for the treatment of cancer, diabetes and other diseases.
  - Ultrasound, X-ray and diagnostic testing equipment.
  - Vaccines.
  - Treatments to stop smoking.
  - Improvement of medical procedures.
  
  Other considerations:
  - There is no guarantee that a clinical study will benefit you personally.
  - In the future, the results can help other people who have a health problem.
  - Participation in a clinical study is voluntary.

• Will the study benefit me personally?

  Your participation in this study will allow you to know your health status at the time of starting it, but it will not mean any other additional medical benefit, beyond financial compensation and the knowledge that you have contributed to medical science.

• Can I withdraw from the study at any time?

  Your participation in this study is voluntary. You may refuse to participate in this study without penalty or loss of benefits to which you may be entitled. If you decide to participate in the study, you may withdraw from it at any time without penalties or loss of benefits to which you are entitled. Your participation in this study may be discontinued if the study doctor, for reasons of (but not limited to) serious adverse reactions or your inability to follow instructions, so determines.

• I will have to pay?

  The medications that your doctor will provide you in both cases, as well as all the complementary studies that the research protocol requires, are totally FREE for you. None of the participants in the study, nor the doctors, nor the Health team staff, nor the Institution will charge you for any of the studies performed or medications you receive. Your participation will not imply any expense for you.
